Who was Mohammad Shahabuddin?

Mohammad Shahabuddin was a gangster who turned into a politician. During his time, Mohammad Shahabuddin served as an MLA and Member of Parliament from the Siwan constituency.

Not only this, he was a former member of the National Executive Committee of the Janata Dal and the Rashtriya Janata Dal. His close ties with RJD Supremo and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav is still talked in today's time.

Shahabuddin was disqualified from contesting elections following his conviction for the kidnapping and disappearance of Chote Lal Gupta, an activist of the CPI (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation for which he was serving a life sentence. He was also accused of killing 15 other Communist Party activists, including the former student leader Chandrashekhar Prasad.

Shahabuddin died in a Delhi hospital, at the age of 53 after succumbing to complications stemming from COVID-19.

The politics of Siwan, Bihar, has long revolved around Shahabuddin. Now, in this Bihar Election, his son, Osama Shaheb, has entered the electoral fray to carry on Shahabuddin's political legacy. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has nominated him from Raghunathpur, cutting the ticket of its sitting MLA.
