With a few days to go for Bihar Elections 2025, Rangbaaz - The Bihar Chapter has been buzzing among fans on social media. Keeping Bihar Election in mind, Rangbaaz - The Bihar Chapter was released on Zee5 on October 31, 2025. Earlier, it was streamed in a web series format. The story was same i.e. it revolved around gangster-turned-politician Harun Shah Ali Baig.
Rangbaaz - The Bihar Chapter is inspired by true events on the life of real life gangster turned politician of Siwan constituency named Mohammad Shahabuddin. The character of Haroon Shah Ali Baig played by Vineet Kumar Singh is reportedly inspired by Mohammad Shahabuddin.

Dipesh Kumar is Harun Shah Ali Baig's childhood friend as shown in the movie Rangbaaz - The Bihar Chapter. The movie has showcased that Dipesh's mother once saved Harun Shah Ali Baig from a mob during a communal riots in Bihar.
Thereafter, Dipu and Harun went onto become best friends. In the due course of time, Dipu left the village for high studies while Harun remained in Bihar as always wanted to pursue the life of Baahubali i.e. a Don.
However, seeing lands of poor people getting snatched and somewhere the name of Harun Shah Ali Baig popping up, Dipu rejects a fellowship offer from abroad and comes back to the village to fight election against his childhood friend Harun Shah Ali Baig.
Dipu joins the CPI-ML party to fight the election. However, during one of his public rally, he was shot down by unknown gunmen. Dipu's mother accuses that it was Harun Shah Ali Baig who ordered assassination of Dipesh Kumar.
Notably, the makers of the story have clearly mentioned that the movie is fictionalization of true events that took place in Bihar.
Now, coming back to who was Dipesh Kumar, True Scoop tried to dig deep into Mohammad Shahabuddin's connection with any CPI-ML activist. Interestingly, Mohammad Shahabuddin was accused of murder of CPI-ML activist Munna Choudhary in 2001.
As per Economic Times report published in 2007, a special fast track court sentenced Mohammad Shahabuddin for life for the murder of a CPI-ML (liberation) worker.
