The answer is no. Sarzameen is an emotional thriller written by Ayush Soni, Since the movie is original and fictional in nature, it is not based on an Indian Army officer whose son joins Pakistani terrorist groups.
The movie starts with Indian Army's hunt to nab a terrorist named Mohsin. Menon was sent to Kashmir to identify and nab terrorist Mohsin. During a cross firing, Indian Army captures a terrorist. The Army also arrested the terrorist's brother.
Colonel Vijay Menon and Mehar has a son named Harman who has problem of stammering. The relationship between Harman and his father is not cordial as the Colonel's son will not be joining the Army.
During his stint in Kashmir, Harman gets kidnapped by terrorists. The Terrorists then ask his colonel father to free the arrested terrorist and his brother.
At first, the Colonel agrees, but he then gun down the arrested terrorist. In response, Harman who was kidnapped was sent to PoK and was radicalised.
(Spoilers Ahead) After 8 years, the Colonel gets posted in Kupwara. One day the army arrests 8 intruders at the border. Interestingly, one of them is Harman. Harman then gets reunited with his family. However, now he is totally changed.
In the end, Kajol dies as it was revealed that she was real life Mohsin whom the army was trying to find out for years.
