Panic gripped the Gate Hakima area of Amritsar after a 21-year-old youth was allegedly shot at by two youths near a T-point in B Block. The injured victim, identified as Amit, was rushed to hospital in a serious condition following the firing.

According to the victim’s family, Amit had been celebrating his birthday at home and had cut a cake before leaving with his friends to eat outside. What began as an ordinary birthday outing allegedly turned into a violent attack when two youths on an Activa reportedly followed them and opened fire.

Birthday celebration ends in sudden attack

Family members said Amit had stepped out shortly after his birthday celebration. While he was travelling with his friends, two youths allegedly arrived from behind on an Activa and fired at him.

The bullet reportedly struck Amit near his jaw, leaving him seriously injured. He was immediately taken to hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

A family member, Sagar, claimed that the incident was linked to a minor dispute that had taken place earlier between some youngsters.

According to him, the earlier argument had been settled after people present at the spot intervened and pacified both sides. However, the family alleges that around one-and-a-half hours later, Amit was targeted while travelling with his friends.

Two youths named by victim

The victim's family has alleged that the shooters have been identified as Nitish and Gosh. Amit has also reportedly named two youths in his statement to police.

The family has demanded strict action against those responsible and alleged that there was a delay in police response following the incident.

Police recover empty shell from crime spot

Police reached the area after receiving information about the firing and began examining the scene.

ACP Surinder Singh said police teams inspected the spot and an empty shell was recovered from the location. He also confirmed that the injured youth had been admitted to hospital and that his statement had been recorded.

According to the ACP, the victim named two youths in his statement, and police are initiating the process of registering an FIR against them.

CCTV footage being examined

Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to establish the exact sequence of events and identify the accused.

Police are also investigating what triggered the firing and whether the earlier minor dispute was the reason behind the attack.

For now, Amit remains under treatment, while police teams are working to trace the accused and establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
