In a joint operation, the Excise Department and Punjab Police seized a vehicle loaded with illegal liquor near Mata Rani Chowk in Jalandhar. Acting on a specific tip-off, officials intercepted the suspected vehicle at a checkpoint and recovered a large consignment of illicit liquor.
Confidential information about the illegal supply
According to Excise Officer Manjeet Singh, the department had received confidential information that a vehicle carrying a substantial quantity of liquor was on its way for illegal supply. Based on the input, the Excise Department, in coordination with the police, set up a naka near Mata Rani Chowk to intercept the vehicle.
As soon as the suspected vehicle reached the checkpoint, it was stopped and searched. During the inspection, officials recovered a total of 37 boxes of liquor from the vehicle.
The seized consignment included:
20 boxes of 'Punjab King' liquor full bottles
15 boxes of 'Punjab Kings' liquor quarter botles
2 boxes of 'Noorpuri Santra' liquor
Officials said that two of the recovered boxes were marked "For Sale in Chandigarh," while the remaining liquor cartons carried the label "For Sale in Punjab." The authorities are investigating whether the liquor was being transported illegally for distribution across different jurisdictions.
Driver held
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody on the spot, and the vehicle used to transport the liquor was seized. According to the Excise Department, the accused is a resident of the local area and has allegedly been linked to the illegal liquor trade in the past.
Further investigation
The suspect is currently being interrogated, and officials are trying to identify others involved in the supply chain. Authorities said the investigation will focus on tracing the network responsible for transporting and distributing the illegal liquor.
Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
