A commotion broke out outside Mannat Hospital in Jalandhar after the death of a newborn child of a pregnant woman. The family members have accused the hospital of medical negligence and alleged that the woman was given an incorrect injection, following which her health deteriorated. Police reached the spot and have started an investigation into the matter.
Family statements on the situation
According to the family, the woman, identified as Bhavna, was around five months pregnant and had been undergoing treatment at Mannat Hospital for some time. The family alleged that two days ago, she developed pain and was brought to the hospital for a check-up.
Claims by family members
The family claimed that doctors administered an injection to her, after which her condition appeared stable for some time. They said the hospital staff later advised them to take her home. However, after reaching home, the woman’s condition allegedly worsened, and she remained in severe pain throughout the night.
Alleges of no immediate treatent
The family said they brought her back to the hospital the following morning for further treatment. Her sister-in-law Amandeep Kaur alleged that despite requesting doctors to treat the patient, no immediate treatment was provided and she was later referred to another hospital near Football Chowk.
Verdict by other hospital
After reaching the other hospital, doctors informed the family that the baby had died. The relatives alleged that timely medical intervention could have saved the child’s life.
Police investigation on the matter
Following the incident, police were informed and reached the hospital. Officials recorded statements from both sides and said further action would be taken based on the investigation.
Revelations from preliminary inquiry
A police officer said that during the preliminary inquiry, it was found that the woman was sent for a scan, during which doctors found that the baby’s heartbeat was not detected. Following this, she was referred to another hospital, where the newborn was declared dead.
Response by the hospital doctor
Meanwhile, responding to the allegations regarding the injection, the hospital doctor said that the injection was administered due to bleeding-related complications. However, the hospital management has not given any detailed statement regarding the protest by the family outside the hospital.
Investigation underway
The matter is currently under investigation, and police officials have said that further action will be taken after examining the medical records and statements of both parties. If the hospital authorities provide their side, it will also be included.
