The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with immense patriotic fervor across the country, and Jalandhar was no exception. Jalandhar Central Halka Incharge Nitin Kohli led the celebrations by hoisting the national flag at Ward 67, Ward 9, and Ward 22.
The air was filled with patriotic zeal as children and youth waved the tricolour, chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.”
Addressing the gathering, Kohli paid rich tributes to India’s freedom fighters including Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Udham Singh, Kartar Singh Sarabha, Mangal Pandey, and Bal Gangadhar Tilak, recalling their supreme sacrifices for the nation’s independence.
He emphasized that August 15 is not just a celebration of freedom but also a solemn reminder of the countless martyrs who laid down their lives to free India from 200 years of British rule.
Highlighting Punjab’s contribution to the freedom struggle, Kohli said Punjabis have always stood at the forefront whenever the nation faced challenges.
He described the national flag as a symbol of unity, courage, and prosperity, urging the youth to take forward the vision of a developed and drug-free Punjab.
Kohli reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling drug menace through the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ initiative, under which drug traffickers have been arrested and properties demolished.
He also mentioned the success of Aam Aadmi Clinics in providing free medicines and lab tests, strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.
Reaffirming Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision, Kohli said the state government remains dedicated to restoring Punjab’s glory as ‘Rangla Punjab’ and has already fulfilled several guarantees in the past three and a half years.
Prominent personalities including Gurpreet Kaur, Vicky Tulsi, Keenu, Praveen Pehalwan, Lagnadeep, Trilok, Ajay Chopra, and Praveen Vasan were present on the occasion.
