After remaining stalled for months, and in some cases even over a year the key road projects in Jalandhar finally resumed with authorities pushing work forward rapidly within just days of restarting.
The long-pending construction of the road stretch from Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk (Nakodar Chowk) to Kapurthala Chowk officially resumed in March 2026, ending a prolonged halt caused by the surface water project.
The project had originally been scheduled for completion by Diwali 2025, but technical complications during pipeline work delayed execution for several months leaving commuters in trouble, for them the delay meant navigating a muddy, potholed road and facing constant traffic congestion throughout the day.
AAP Jalandhar Central Halka in-charge Nitin Kohli, who had been reviewing the project since late 2025, said such delays must be addressed quickly. “Whenever development work gets stuck, it becomes our responsibility to resolve it. Basic infrastructure cannot be kept pending,” he said. Locals say what remained stuck for months suddenly picked up pace. “Nothing was moving for so long, but now within days of resumption, work is clearly progressing,” said a trader from the area.
A similar turnaround has been seen on the Manbro Chowk to GTB Nagar stretch, where roads had remained dug up for over a year after pipeline laying. The projects are part of a broader road development plan announced earlier, with groundwork inspections conducted on September 19, 2025, and construction scheduled to begin from September 25, 2025, covering multiple key roads across the city.
Mayor Vaneet Dhir recently held a meeting with officials of the B&R (Buildings and Roads) branch and directed them to complete the construction and repair of damaged roads within 45 days. Officials say work that had been stalled for months is being fast-tracked now, and the contrast is clear as what remained incomplete for months is now finally moving ahead within days, raising hopes that the long wait for better roads may soon come to an end.
