Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal has sparked a political controversy in Punjab after he shared a 'conference call recording'. Sukhbir Badal took to his Instagram handle and shared a conference call recording labeling it 'highly sensitive'. Badal alleged that the conference call recording is linked to Patiala Police.
Sukhbir Singh Badal has claimed that the conference call is taking place between Patiala police officers. The SSP is speaking with various DSPs.
In the conference call, security arrangements are being planned. There are allegations that Patiala Police officials are planning to obstruct opposing candidates during nominations. Badal alleges that the conference call audio includes conversation that suggests that police will try to stop rival candidates from leaving their homes and villages, and to stop them near the nomination centers by using force or intimidation during security arrangements.
Notably, SAD has approached High Court over the purported call recording.
Patiala Police took to its X handle and called the call recording fake and AI generated. It also warned that strict action will be taken against those who are spreading misinformation.
"It has come to notice that a fake AI-generated video is being circulated on social media, created with malicious intent to mislead the public ,spread disinformation and disturb the law & order situation. Appropriate and stringent legal action will be taken against the culprits."
"Patiala police urges the citizens to not to believe the disinformation. We remain fully committed to ensuring free and fair elections."
