
In the incident of ammonia gas leakage at the Sports and Surgical Complex, Jalandhar, there was no loss of life and nearly all 35 workers were safely evacuated.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, while giving information about the matter, said that on Monday evening, after receiving information about an ammonia gas leak from the safety release valve at M/s Metro Milk Products in the local Sports and Surgical Complex, a fire brigade team reached the spot within 5 minutes.
The team immediately started the rescue operation and evacuated about 35 workers through the emergency exit.
He said that the situation was brought under control within an hour of the incident.
Dr. Aggarwal added that to prevent further leakage of gas, a special team was called from Verka Milk Plant, which shut down the pressure lines of the air compressor, and now the situation is completely under control.
