In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug free state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a narcotics smuggling network with the arrest of four individuals, and recovered 10 kg heroin from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.

Those arrested have been identified as Sukhraj Singh, a resident of Hargobind Avenue; Ajitpal Singh alias Mota, a resident of Khandwala; Anmolpreet Singh, a resident of Jawahar Nagar; and Robin Gill, a resident of Village Chogawan, all hailing from Amritsar district. Apart from recovering contraband, police teams have also impounded their Hero Splendor motorcycle and a black Honda Activa scooter being used for transporting the heroin consignment.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were allegedly working in coordination with foreign-based smugglers, and have been receiving heroin consignments to further distribute in the state.

Sharing operational details, he said that CI Amristar team had received a reliable input indicating that on the directives of their foreign based handler, his associates, identified as Sukhraj Singh, Ajitpal Singh alias Mota, Anmolpreet Singh, and Robin Gill, had retrieved a huge consignment of heroin and are expected to deliver it to the other party. Acting swiftly, police teams intercepted all four suspects near Dera Baba Darshan Singh in village Ghanupur Kale, when they were travelling on their motorcycle and scooter, and recovered 10 kg heroin from their possession.

The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish the complete forward and backward linkages in this case to identify other persons involved and dismantle the wider cross-border narcotics smuggling network.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 67 dated 22-10-2026 under sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
