Recently a video of Rialto Chowk post office in Amritsar went viral, where Postal assistant Vishal Singh was forcibly demanded to conduct business in Punjabi. Now, the postal officer Vishal Singh has come forward, he says that he belongs to Delhi and has been working in the Amritsar post office for the past four years. He says, "I do not know Punjabi, we use only Hindi and English. This department comes under the Central Government of India and the posts are spread all over the country. How can we learn different languages? If tomorrow I have duty in Bengal or Tamil Nadu, will it be mandatory for me to learn Bengali or Tamil?"
He asserts that they have been asked to speak English and Hindi, which is 'our national language'. He further adds that the person forcibly made a video of him and used abusive language, demands an investigation into the matter and says a strict action must be taken. He flags the privacy risk of such acts as people's goods, FD money and other things are kept in the post office.
The supervisor of the post office, Gursharanjeet Singh, comments on this matter saying, "The matter has come to my attention and I want strict action to be taken against that person, he has threatened our privacy by making the video."
He claims, "my employee was forced to speak Punjabi, while our national language is Hindi, and English as its alternative, if someone does not understand Hindi, then we communicate in English, he adds "my employee was threatened, strict action must be taken against the person who has tried to defame our department and our post office by making this video."
