There has been a sudden shift in weather patterns in the country, where there is a lot of rainfall in various states along with hail storms, which has resulted in low temperatures.
Let us understand why there is a sudden change in weather pattern. Two Western Disturbances are responsible for snowfall, rainfall, thunderstorms and strong wind blowing in many areas. For the next two days, there will be unstable weather conditions in all Himalayan areas, plains and central-eastern part of the country. Punjab state is considered one of the affected states.
The impact of the system can be felt in all hill states of the country. There is heavy rainfall in all the districts of Uttarakhand. New snowfall in Char Dham areas like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The weather became colder quickly. In Dehradun city there was a drop in temperature by almost six degrees. Landslides have disrupted their routine. A landslide in Ramban area of Jammu led to disruption in traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar highway. Due to landslides in Chamba area of Himachal Pradesh, road transport was disrupted and a bridge under construction collapsed.
When traveling through the plains, it is anticipated that the weather system will create unfavorable weather conditions, especially on April 8, with heavy rains, thunderstorms, and wind speeds ranging from 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. Unfavorable weather conditions can lead to the formation of dust storms, falling trees, power failures, and disruption of transportation. However, these can offer some relief from the scorching heat.
And it is not only northern India. There are 3 active cyclonic circulations present at elevated heights over Madhya Pradesh which have brought rainfall in several districts there. 18 districts remain alerted against the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds. Uttar Pradesh had been affected with very strong dust storms in the capital Lucknow as well as several other districts which have seen rainfall accompanied by fallen trees and disrupted power supply because of that. Storms in Rajasthan have brought damage in places such as Udaipur where one of the house walls had collapsed. It was an unusual combination of rain and hailstorm in the desert districts of Jaisalmer and Nagaur.
While looking from a broader point of view, almost 20 states might experience thunderstorms as well as rains, while about 10 states may see hail storms in their regions. Eastern parts of the country, namely Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal will remain very volatile with a chance of getting rains and lighting in the area.
April 8 appears to be a highly unstable day in the next two days. Rainfall and thunderstorm are predicted to occur in the areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, with winds blowing at 60 km/hr. The central and eastern parts of India such as Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh will experience rainfall and hail showers. For April 9, it appears that plains will be stable while hills will receive moderate showers and snowfalls. Probably, there will be rain showers in northern parts especially of Assam and Meghalaya and the central and eastern parts will witness thunderstorm showers.
According to Metrological experts, this abrupt shift in weather pattern should concern us. Western disturbances and Cyclonic circulation from Mediterranean ocean are mainly responsible for this kind of sudden change in weather patterns. People staying in areas receiving heavy rainfall should make themselves ready for any unexpected changes in weather patterns.
