In a major administrative reshuffle, the Punjab Government has transferred six senior IPS officers, bringing key changes across departments including Vigilance, Law & Order, Jails, and Home Guards. The orders, issued by the Home Department on April 6, 2026, have come into effect immediately.
The most significant appointment is that of senior IPS officer Sharad Satya Chauhan, who has been posted as Special DGP-cum-Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau in SAS Nagar. He replaces P.K. Sinha and moves from his previous role as Managing Director of the Punjab Police Housing Corporation. This posting is seen as crucial, considering the Vigilance Bureau’s role in tackling corruption and ensuring accountability within the system.
Alongside this, IPS officer Ram Singh will continue as Special DGP, Technical Support Services, and has been given additional charge as Commandant General of Punjab Home Guards and Director of Civil Defence, expanding his responsibilities significantly.
P.K. Sinha has been shifted to OSD (Law & Order) until April 30, 2026, after which he will take over as Special DGP, Law & Order from May 1, following the retirement of Arpit Shukla. This indicates a planned transition in Punjab’s law and order leadership.
Arun Pal Singh has been appointed as the new Managing Director of the Punjab Police Housing Corporation, while R.K. Jaiswal has been given additional charge as ADGP Jails along with his current role as ADGP NRI. Meanwhile, Gurmeet Singh Chauhan (SPS, 2011 batch) has been placed at the disposal of the DGP Punjab, with his new posting to be announced later.
The official order states that all transfers have been made on administrative grounds and were approved by the competent authority. It was issued under the signature of Alok Shekhar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Punjab.
This reshuffle is being seen as a strategic move to streamline key departments and strengthen governance, especially in areas like vigilance, internal security, and administrative efficiency across the state.
