Kapurthala, July 24: The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has suspended Barnala DSP Satbir Singh Bains in connection with the recent lathi-charge on protesting sanitation workers in Barnala.
The action comes after widespread criticism over the police's handling of the protest, during which several sanitation workers, including women, were allegedly injured. The incident sparked strong public and political reactions, prompting the government to initiate disciplinary action against the officer.
The suspension is part of the Punjab Government's response to the controversy as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the police action. Meanwhile, the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission and the Punjab State Women Commission have also sought reports on the incident.
