The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is set to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of the computer science curriculum in schools and this means students’ performance in AI will now be counted in their board examinations and will also be shown in their certificates.
Speaking at a national-level AI conference and workshop Amarpal Singh chairman of Punjab School Education Board said the step is aimed at giving AI proper academic importance and preparing students for future skills.
The event brought together policymakers, education experts and industry leaders who discussed how new technologies like AI can be added to classrooms and how it can match global changes and job needs. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said this move marks a shift towards future-ready learning and says adding AI in studies will improve quality of education, encourage new ideas and help students become more prepared for a technology-driven world.
Officials also said the focus is not only on technical learning but also on teaching students the responsible and ethical use of technology and one official said the aim is to create “informed digital citizens, not just technology users.” Experts at the conference suggested that AI education should not be limited to computer science alone but should also be included in other subjects and also highlighted the need to reduce the gap in technology access between schools and ensure equal opportunities for all students.
