Punjab is set for a major weather change as the southwest monsoon is expected to remain active across the state over the next week. According to the latest weather forecast, most districts are likely to receive intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms and cloudy skies, bringing much-needed relief from the hot and humid conditions experienced over the past several days.
The weather system is expected to affect several major cities, including Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, Mohali, Chandigarh, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Nawanshahr (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar), Rupnagar, Moga, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Bathinda, Mansa, Sangrur, Barnala, Faridkot, Muktsar Sahib and Tarn Taran.
Most parts of Punjab are expected to record daytime temperatures between 31°C and 35°C, while night temperatures are likely to remain between 25°C and 28°C. Although humidity levels will continue to be high, regular rain showers and increased cloud cover are expected to make the weather more comfortable.
Weather forecasts indicate that rainfall activity will gradually increase from Friday onwards, with rain chances ranging between 30% and 65% in different districts. Some areas may also experience brief thunderstorms, gusty winds and moderate to heavy showers, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.

* Jalandhar: Frequent showers throughout the week.
* Ludhiana: Light to moderate rain with cloudy conditions.
* Amritsar: Thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall likely.
* Patiala: Moderate showers expected during the weekend.
* Mohali & Chandigarh: Rain accompanied by cloudy skies and cooler temperatures.
* Hoshiarpur & Pathankot: Higher chances of moderate rainfall due to their proximity to the foothills.
* Bathinda, Mansa & Muktsar: Light to moderate showers expected despite warmer daytime temperatures.
* Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr and Rupnagar: Intermittent rainfall likely through the week.
The rainfall is expected to benefit farmers, particularly those engaged in paddy transplantation, by improving soil moisture and reducing dependence on irrigation. Agricultural experts believe the showers will support crop growth during this crucial stage of the kharif season.
However, heavy spells of rain in some districts may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion, slower vehicular movement and temporary disruption of normal life. Municipal authorities have been advised to keep drainage systems clear to prevent urban flooding.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under isolated trees, and secure loose outdoor objects during strong winds.
Health experts recommend taking precautions against seasonal illnesses by avoiding stagnant water, maintaining hygiene, drinking safe water and protecting against mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, which often become more common during the monsoon
With monsoon activity expected to stay active throughout the week, Punjab is likely to witness one of its most widespread rainfall spells in recent weeks, bringing relief from the heat while providing a significant boost to agriculture and groundwater recharge across the state.
