In a major development Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar was arrested on Monday in connection with the death of a government official.

The case is linked to Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, who was serving as District Manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar and Randhawa allegedly died by suicide on Saturday after consuming poison, before his death a video surfaced in which Randhawa reportedly accused Bhullar of harassment.

Following the controversy, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directed Bhullar to resign from his ministerial post, which he did the same day.

According to Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the Minister was arrested from Mandi Gobindgarh on Monday meanwhile police have registered a case against Bhullar, his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar and his personal assistant Dilbag Singh under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including abetment of suicide, criminal intimidation, and common intention.
