Thieves target i20 car around 2 am
A suspected car theft attempt was reported outside House No. 521 in a residential colony during the early hours of Saturday. According to the residents, the incident took place around 2 am, when a group of thieves allegedly arrived in another i20 car and targeted an i20 parked outside the house.
Suspects allegedly discussed theft for 15–20 minutes
Residents said the suspects stayed near the vehicle for around 15–20 minutes, allegedly discussing and planning the theft before carrying it out. They then reportedly broke the windows of the parked car and opened its bonnet.
Wires used in failed attempt to start car
According to the residents, the suspects allegedly tried to start the car by using wires after opening the bonnet. However, they were unable to start the vehicle. The attempt left the car's windows damaged and caused other damage during the suspected break-in.
Neighbour raises alarm, suspects flee
The suspicious activity was noticed by Ram Krishan, who lives in House No. 520. After noticing the attempted theft, he reportedly raised an alarm and alerted the vehicle owners and other residents.
The residents said the suspects fled the spot after the alarm was raised, before the owners could reach the vehicle.
No serious police action
According to the owner of the car, police said the action would've been taken if the attempt would have been successful and the car would be stolen. It was just an attempt.
Police reached spot, residents question action
Residents said the police reached the location during the night and took photographs of the damaged vehicle. However, they alleged that even by noon, no visible action had been taken in connection with the incident.
The residents have raised concerns over the lack of security in the colony, particularly at night. They asserted that the colony has a lot of camera's and the footage can easily reveal who has attempted the robbery.
Residents demand better security
Residents said the colony does not have a dedicated watchman, leaving vehicles and houses vulnerable to theft attempts. A neighbour described the area as a posh residential colony and pointed out that the residence of Punjab minister Mohinder Bhagat is also located nearby and is tightened with high security.
Residents are now demanding increased police patrolling and proper security arrangements in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future.
