Chandigarh schools will remain closed for an extended summer vacation starting May 23, 2026, as the city faces rising temperatures and a severe heatwave warning issued by the India Meteorological Department.
The District Education Office, UT Chandigarh, has officially confirmed that all government and government-aided schools will observe summer break from May 23, 2026 (Saturday) to June 30, 2026 (Tuesday), giving students a total of 39 days of holidays.
Early Decision Due to Heatwave
The decision has been taken in view of continuously increasing temperatures and health risks associated with prolonged exposure to extreme heat. Authorities have prioritized student safety as heatwave conditions intensify across the region.
Teacher Reporting Days
While students will remain on vacation throughout the period, school staff will be required to attend on June 29 and June 30, 2026, for administrative and academic planning duties.
