The meeting has been called at the residence of Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge. According to reports, the agenda of the meeting focuses on the issues of Jatt Sikhs and Dalits that have erupted in Punjab Congress.

The leaders are likely to receive a strong message regarding the ongoing internal conflict in the Punjab Congress and the dispute over the Chief Ministerial candidate.

On January 17, a meeting of the Congress SC cell was held in Chandigarh. Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi also attended it. During that, Channi said, "If you believe that 38% or 35% of the population in Punjab is Dalit, then why are we not getting representation? The Punjab Congress president is also from the upper caste. The CLP leader is also from the upper caste. The head of the Punjab women's wing is also from the upper caste, and the General Secretary of Punjab is also from the upper caste. Where should we go?"

Responding to it, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring issued a statement. Warring said despite losing twice Channi was made an MP. He added that he is also the member of Congress Working Committee (CWC).

Warring further said that the CWC is among the highest ranks in the party and Channi is a member of it. He further added that Channi is also the chairman of the Lok Sabha Agriculture Committee.

Warring also said that Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa was about to be made the Chief Minister, but at the last moment Channi was picked instead. He asserted that Dalits are and will remain the crown of Congress party, but despite that the party remains secular, and no caste-based discriminations take place in the Congress.
