The Punjab government has presented its Budget 2026–27 with major allocations across education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and social welfare. Here are the 10 biggest highlights: 

  1. Education Boost: ₹19,279 crore allocated for school education, a 7% increase. Punjab ranks first in classroom results nationally. Under Sikhiya Revolution 2.0, ₹3,500 crore will be spent over six years to improve schools, and a world-class university will be set up at Sri Anandpur Sahib.

  2. Health Sector: ₹6,879 crore allocated. The Chief Minister’s Health Scheme provides ₹10 lakh insurance per family, covering 6.5 million families. 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics are operational, with 143 new clinics planned. Hospitals will be upgraded, and more doctors and nurses recruited.

  3. Agriculture & Farmers: ₹15,377 crore allocated, including free electricity to farmers, subsidies on seeds and machinery, and new schemes for maize cultivation.

  4. Horticulture: ₹1,300 crore project to expand fruit and vegetable farming from 4.59 lakh hectares to 17.34 lakh hectares by 2035.

  5. Electricity & Power: Most households to get zero electricity bills, farmers continue to get free power. Mission Roshan Punjab invests ₹5,000 crore to upgrade substations, transformers, and power lines.

  6. Local Development – Rangla Punjab Vikas: ₹1,170 crore allocated, with ₹10 crore per assembly constituency for roads, public spaces, and other infrastructure.

  7. Urban Development: ₹7,257 crore for cities, including ₹1,000 crore for municipal bodies and 214 projects under AMRUT 2.0.

  8. Industry & Employment: ₹1.45 lakh crore in investment proposals since 2022, generating 5.21 lakh jobs. ₹287 crore allocated for skill training and youth employment programs.

  9. Sports: ₹1,791 crore for sports infrastructure, including 3,000 model playgrounds, 1,000 indoor gyms, and plans for thousands more next year.

  10. Higher Education & Skill Development: ITI seats increased from 35,000 to 52,000, including ITIs in 11 jails, with ₹569 crore allocated for technical education.
