On International Women’s Day, the Punjab government announced the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhian Satikar Yojna, a new welfare program aimed at supporting women across the state.
Under the scheme all adult women in Punjab aged 18 and above will get ₹1,000 per month directly in their bank accounts. While women from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community will receive ₹1,500 per month. The government has allocated ₹9,300 crore for FY 2026–27 to ensure smooth and timely implementation of the program.

Officials said the initiative is designed to empower women financially, socially, and personally, making Punjab one of the first states in India to implement such a universal women’s cash transfer program.
