In a major development, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced that he will be presenting awards to the four police personnel - who saved the lives of 11 people who fell into the Sirhind Canal in Bathinda on July 23, 2025. 

This announcement was made by the Chief Minister after he met the PCR team and honoured the team for their exceptional efforts in saving the lives of all family members. According to the reports, the PCR team included ASIs Rajinder Singh and Narinder Singh and along with Constables Jaswant Singh and Harpal Kaur.

CM Mann interacted with the officials at his residence and praised them for their bravery, outlining that they have continued the legacy of Punjab Police in serving for the people of the state with dedication and commitment. 

He furthermore outlined that it was a matter of immense satisfaction and pride that the team acted immediately as soon as they received information about the mishap and took all the required actions to protect 11 lives, including five children.

While highlighting the efforts taken by the cops to protect, CM Mann outlined that ASI Narinder Singh jumped into the canal to rescue the family in the car and following him Constable Jaswant Singh, who did not know how to swim, also jumped without thinking about his own life and rescued the family. 

Furthermore, calling it a rare display of heroism and professional commitment, the Chief Minister congratulated Senior Superintendent of Police Avneet Kaundal and her entire team for this extraordinary act of humanity.

He announced that these cops will be conferred with the CM Rakshak Padak for their bravery during the upcoming state-level Independence Day celebrations. 

Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed hope that their courageous example would inspire other officers to serve the state and its people with similar zeal and commitment.
