Two back-to-back explosions near sensitive security installations in Punjab that took place outside the Border Security Force (Border Security Force) Headquarters near Guru Nanakpura in Jalandhar and near Khassa Cantonment outside an Army camp in Amritsar have triggered a major political row as now Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan has directly blamed it on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and alleging the incidents are part of its preparation for the 2027 state elections.
While no casualties were reported in either incident the nature of the locations has raised serious security concerns and reacting strongly Maan said that “wherever the BJP wants to contest such incidents happen” and questioned whether the party was trying to seek votes through fear and talking further about the same he also referred to a previous social media post by the BJP’s Punjab unit that read “Next Punjab” suggesting it hinted at the party’s political focus ahead of upcoming elections.
An explosion was reported outside the Border Security Force (Border Security Force) Headquarters near Guru Nanakpura in Jalandhar and the incident took place around 7:55 pm near the main gate of the BSF complex and according to initial information shared by locals a scooter believed to be an Activa and reportedly linked to a delivery executive was found parked near the entrance when smoke and fire were first noticed and moments later a loud blast followed causing panic in the area.
Some eyewitness accounts also suggest that a young man was seen approaching the location from the PAP Chowk side earlier in the evening and it is being claimed that he may have left a packet near the scooter before walking away towards the bus stand however police have made it clear that this angle is still under verification and no confirmation has been given yet.
Hours later a second explosion was reported around 10:30 pm to 11 pm outside an Army camp in the Khasa area of Amritsar located about 15 kilometres from the Attari-Wagah border and according to officials there is a preliminary suspicion that a grenade may have been hurled at the site by a motorcycle borne individual though this has not been confirmed yet however it has been established that the blast caused damage to tin sheets on the outer wall of the camp.
Amritsar Rural Police SP Aditya Warrier said teams from the police and Army rushed to the spot immediately and bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and forensic teams examined the site and samples have been sent for testing.
Investigators are also examining a social media post by a group calling itself the Khalistan Liberation Army (KLA) which has claimed responsibility for the Jalandhar blast and the post alleges that an IED attack was carried out as part of an operation named “Nawa Savair” and includes threats against a senior police officer however officials have not verified the authenticity of this claim and have said it is being treated as one of several angles in the investigation.
