The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate alleged illegal mining activities in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, amid serious concerns over the scale of the operation.

The court reportedly made strong observations regarding the alleged violations, stating that the entire operation appeared to have been carried out with impunity over an extended period.

According to the report, approximately 110 trucks were allegedly involved in the mining activity. The High Court has asked the CBI to submit a detailed report within three months, examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged illegal mining and identifying those responsible.

The court also raised concerns about the possible involvement of officials and other individuals who may have facilitated the operation. The investigation is expected to examine how such extensive mining could have continued and whether the relevant authorities failed to take appropriate action.

The court further indicated that technical assistance, including support from the Geological Survey of India (GSI) or the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), could be sought to assess the extent of the alleged mining activity.

The CBI investigation is expected to establish the facts, determine the extent of any violations and identify those responsible, if wrongdoing is proven.
