A young man was found dead under unclear circumstances at the Dussehra Ground in the Kabir Vihar–Kathara area in Jalandhar city on Monday and according to information no identity documents were recovered from the deceased however, packets of cigarettes and tobacco were found near the body and after noticing the body the locals immediately informed the police at Basti Bawa Khel police station.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving the information and took the body into custody and the body has been sent for post-mortem to find out the exact cause of death.
Area Councilor Gurdeep Singh Ghumman said that the identity of the youth has not been established yet and also claimed that he had earlier raised complaints about illegal liquor being consumed openly at the ground but no strict action was taken and expressed suspicion that the death could be linked to drug or substance abuse.
Meanwhile Investigating Officer ASI Rajinder Kumar said that the police received information through the control room about a body lying in Kabir Vihar and said that all necessary steps have been taken and the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the report.
