
The much-awaited Delhi–Amritsar-Katra Expressway is back on track. Jalandhar DC Himanshu Aggarwal in an exclusive interview with True Scoop informed that 100 percent acquisition and possession related work has been completed and the construction is expected to commence soon.
For the unversed, Delhi–Amritsar–Katra's proposed expressway is 670 km-long, 4-lane (expandable to 8 lanes) wide expressway, which will connect Bahadurgarh border near Delhi with Katra in Jammu and Kashmir via Haryana and Punjab.
Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway is envisioned under the fampus Bharatmala Pariyojana in 2019.
Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway project will cover major cities of Punjab such as Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Patiala, Sangrur, and Maler Kotla.
As per reports, Delhi-Katra journey currently takes 14 hours over a distance of 727 kilometers via road. After the completion of the Expressway, the distance will be shortened to 588 kilometers, bringing down travel time to just six hour.
Jalandhar DC Himanshu Aggarwal informed True Scoop, "Currently, there are 3 major Highway projects of NHAI that is undergoing in Jalandhar. One is Delhi-Katra Highway. I am happy to share that in that 100 percent acquisition and possession have been completed. Only construction work is pending. All accusations related hurdles have been overcome. Soon, Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Highway (Expressway) will be completed."
"Apart from that, acquisition and possession related work of Jalandhar Bypass have been completed. It is also under construction. It will take some time as it is a green field project. Green Field project generally takes time. By next year, the green field ring road is expected to be completed."
