In a major development into Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar bribery case, Krishanu Sharda who is said to be the middle, on Wednesday was sent to 9 days of CBI remand. Krishanu Sharda's CBI remand comes just two days before DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar's 14-days judicial custody ends.
As per reports, CBI has completed the measurement of Bhullar's properties and has questioned his family. Therefore, it is believed that Bhullar may also be taken on remand for questioning. The data on visitors to Krishanu Sharda in Burail Jail has also been submitted to the court, as the CBI had repeatedly requested.
It is being said that Krishanu Sharda has connections with more than two dozen senior bureaucrats in Punjab. He is also believed to be close to some politicians and allegedly acts as a middleman for them. The CBI suspects that by investigating him, it could expose and break a major corruption nexus.
All electronic evidence recovered from him is currently being examined. The CBI has prepared a long list of questions, as a significant amount of data has been retrieved from his electronic devices. In the coming days, the CBI is likely to summon more officers for questioning. The case may not remain limited to Bhullar alone, it could extend to several other officials as well.
During the hearing, the public prosecutor argued that 100 GB of data must be recovered from the accused. The chats found on the accused's mobile phone mention many important details. If he is questioned, the case will be strengthened. "Additionally, we need to find links related to the officer," said the Public Prosecutor.
