

A tragic incident took place in Guru Nanak Pura West, Jalandhar on 15 July, Wednesday. A dead body of an elderly man was found on his rooftop on Wednesday morning. Severe injuries on head and body were seen and a hammer was found near the body
Identification of the victim
The victim is identified as Ashok Kumar who did shuttering for a living and had 4 children and a wife. One of the sons lives in Delhi while the eldest son had passed a few years earlier. The third son is said to be unemployed and alcohol addict. On the other hand, Ashok’s wife has cancer and got home after operation yesterday itself. The family also includes Ashok’s daughter who lives with them.
Background of the incident
While talking to deceased’s daughter, it was informed that her father went out in the morning for a walk and when they returned, they got ready to attend a wedding in the evening. When they returned, she found the house gate open. Later in the night her father consumed alcohol and slept. In the morning around 6-7 she found the dead body of her father with several injuries on the body and major injury on the head. She then informed all the relatives and police to look into the matter.
Talking to the relatives
In an interaction with the relatives of the victim, it was found out that the case allegedly could be of murder because of the injuries found on the body. It was also informed that there were no cases of enmity or grudge with anybody as the victim was a good man and did not believe in holding grudges.
Information from the police
Investigating Officer Prem Pal of Rama Mandi Police Station said that the police received information through the control room about a body lying on the rooftop of a house in Guru Nanak Pura West. Upon reaching the scene, the police found a head injury and blood around the victim.
Further investigation
The officer said that the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination report is received. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and the statements of the victim's family.
