Punjab government has announced to reduce the electricity rates offering a major relief to the state residents. As per the reports, the reduction is set to benefit electricity consumers across Punjab from April 1, 2026.

Sharing details about the new rates the Punjab government stated that they have slashed the electricity rates and now, for the domestic consumers the rates have been brought down to ₹1.5 per unit.

Residential households to benefit

It is noteworthy that the Punjab government has been providing 300 units of free electricity to domestic consumers every month, which adds to 600 units free of cost by the end of two-month billing circle. This step will consequently benefit the users who are consuming more than 600 units of electricity as now, they are going to get lower bills.

Commercial users to get advantage too

The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission stated that the electricity rates for commercial consumers have been reduced by 70 Paise per unit, while the rates for the industrial consumers have been reduced by 74 Paise per unit. Electricity rates for electric vehicles charging stations have been reduced by ₹5 per unit, the lowest in the country.

PSPCL becomes profitable for the first time

The government claims that Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has become a profitable company for the first time during this term, with PSPCL achieving an A+ rating and a profit of ₹2,634 crore in FY 2024-25.
