According to family members and relatives Inder Kaur met Sukhi Brar nearly five to six years ago through Instagram and Sukhi who was originally from Moga, lived in Canada started talking to her through social media messages and their friendship soon became a romantic relationship following which they exchanged phone numbers and began speaking regularly and over time Sukhi reportedly proposed marriage to Inder to which she accepted.
Family members said the relationship became very serious and Sukhi would also visit Punjab from Canada and meet Inder whenever he came back to India and he also visited her family and behaved like a future son-in-law.
Inder’s family later visited Sukhi’s home in Moga and according to relatives both families accepted the relationship and treated each other warmly however, the family claims that Sukhi and his parents hid one important truth from them that he was already married in Canada.
Inder Kaur had entered Punjabi music industry around ten years ago and became known for several Punjabi songs and also worked with different singers including Parmish Verma and at one point she had a strong fan following on YouTube and Instagram and relatives said her career was growing quickly and she was becoming popular in Punjabi music industry however, after falling in love with Sukhi Brar things reportedly changed.
According to the family Sukhi discouraged her from continuing her music career and also asked her to stay away from social media and despite having more than one lakh followers online Inder slowly stopped posting on Instagram and Facebook and even stopped releasing songs for almost three to four years.
Instead she started working as a makeup artist and opened a boutique business and only recently had she started becoming active on Instagram again by posting Reels.
Family members said Sukhi often spoke about marrying Inder and even promised to help settle her and her brother in Canada after marriage.
Inder’s birthday falls on January 11n and this year Sukhi reportedly traveled from Canada to Punjab specially to celebrate her birthday and stayed with her family during the visit and when the family discussed marriage Sukhi allegedly told them that the wedding would happen in March to which Inder believed him completely and started dreaming about her future with him, but when March arrived the marriage did not happen and instead Sukhi allegedly started delaying it and asking for more time.
According to relatives and police investigation details shared by the family Sukhi Brar was already married in Canada and he reportedly had two children, a 12-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter and the family claims Inder had no idea about this for years.
As time passed Inder reportedly started pressuring him to marry her soon and relatives said she was 29 years old and wanted clarity about her future. Police sources quoted by the family claim this pressure became the main reason behind the murder conspiracy.
According to the family the accused later admitted during police questioning that Sukhi did not want to leave his wife and children in Canada and at the same time he was under pressure from Inder to marry her. Relatives also allege that while staying in Canada he planned to kill her and the family claims Sukhi traveled from Canada to Nepal in April and then secretly entered Punjab where he reportedly stayed in Moga for some days before planning the crime.
According to Inder’s brother Jot Inder Singh she had gone out to buy groceries on the day of the incident and while returning home she allegedly met Sukhi Brar and his companions on the way. The brother claimed Sukhi told her he was leaving for Canada and asked her to come along to drop him off and when she refused he allegedly forced her to go with him.
Police interrogation details shared by the family state that Sukhi got into Inder’s car while two taxis followed behind them and the vehicles reportedly moved from Jamalpur towards Chandigarh Road and later turned near Neelon bridge towards Machhiwara.
According to family members taxi drivers later told police that Sukhi allegedly shot Inder inside her own car and after the shooting her body was allegedly thrown into a canal later the car was also pushed into the canal to destroy evidence.
Relatives said police later recovered the car and found bloodstains on the seat along with a spent bullet shell inside the vehicle and the family says this confirmed that Inder was shot dead inside the car.
