With the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections approaching, a viral post claiming that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its second list of candidates is being shared online. The post names proposed candidates for 21 constituencies and asks people to check who has been named from their respective Assembly seats.
However, the claim is misleading. AAP has announced its first list of 40 candidates for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. The alleged second list of 21 candidates has not been officially announced by the party, and the names being circulated should not be treated as confirmed candidates.
AAP’s first list covers 40 of Punjab’s 117 Assembly constituencies, with the Malwa region receiving the largest share of nominations.
Of the 40 candidates announced, 26 belong to Malwa, eight to Doaba, five to Majha and one to Puadh.
Malwa, which has 69 Assembly constituencies, accounts for the majority of candidates announced so far. Doaba has 23 constituencies, while Majha has 25.
The first list includes Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from Dhuri, Sanjeev Arora from Ludhiana West, Kulwant Singh from SAS Nagar, Ajit Pal Singh Kohli from Patiala and Kultar Singh Sandhwan from Kotkapura.
Other candidates named in the first list include Daljit Singh Grewal (Bhola) from Ludhiana East, Ashok Prashar (Pappi) from Ludhiana Central, Chaudhary Madan Lal Bagga from Ludhiana North and Amolak Singh from Jaitu.
In Doaba, the announced candidates include Inderjit Kaur Mann from Nakodar, Balkar Singh from Kartarpur and Bram Shanker Sharma Jimpa from Hoshiarpur.
The Majha list includes Amansher Singh (Shery Kalsi) from Batala and Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar from Amritsar South.
Dinesh Chadha has been named from Rupnagar, the only constituency from Puadh in the first list.
With candidates announced for 40 seats, AAP is yet to announce its nominees for the remaining 77 constituencies.
The viral list of 21 candidates should therefore be viewed as unverified, not as an official announcement by AAP.
