An incident was reported from Rayya where two motorcycle-borne attackers allegedly opened fire outside a Kajaria showroom under the Beas police station area at around 7 PM. Sources claim nearly eight rounds were fired during the incident.
It is claimed that the showroom belongs to Harpreet Singh Happy, an Akali Dal candidate from Ward Number 4 and son of late SGPC member and former Rayya Municipal Committee president Gurvinder Pal Singh Rayya.
Reportedly there also an extortion angle which has been claimed in this incident. It has been alleged that Harpreet had earlier received extortion threats. Although an official confirmation on this extortion link still awaits the investigating police team.
Soon after the incident, DSP Sukhpal Singh issued a statement in public. While briefing about the incident he assured that the matter is under investigation and strict action will be taken against those responsible. This firing incident has once again raised concerns over increasing gangster activity and targeted attacks in Punjab.
