Punjab will see a spell of cold wave conditions over the next five days, mainly affecting the southern and southwestern districts during early morning and night hours, while northern districts stay relatively normal with no major warning.

IMD forecast period and timing

Accordingly, IMD has issued district-wise cold wave warnings for Punjab from 1 to 5 December 2025, each day's forecast valid from 8:30 am of that day to 8:30 am of the next day. That means, the impact will be felt mostly during late night and early morning, as minimum temperatures are expected to drop below normal.

Today and next 24 hours Dec 1–2

The yellow alerts on Day 1 on December 1 have covered most districts of southern and southwestern Punjab, including Fazilka, Firozpur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Mansa, Barnala, and its adjoining areas, whereas the northern districts such as Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Ropar remain in the green "no warning" zone. People living in the warned belt will have decidedly colder nights, along with light winds and a sharp nip in early morning air on both December 1 and the first half of December 2.

Mid‑week trend (Dec 2–4)

From Day 2 to Day 4 (2–4 December), the cold wave zone shifts and expands over central and southern Punjab; so large parts of Malwa continue under a yellow alert, while much of Majha and Doaba remains green with no significant hazard. Yellow means "be updated/be aware" according to the color code of the IMD, indicating that the conditions are cold but not yet at extreme levels; hence, residents are advised to keep checking forecasts, use proper winter clothing, and take care of the vulnerable groups like children, the elderly and outdoor workers.

End of the spell (Dec 4–5) Maps upto Day 5 (5 December) continue to carry yellow warnings over the southwestern and parts of central districts, indicating that the cold wave is expected to prevail over the area till the morning of 6 December, with northern Punjab largely remaining normal.  The extended bulletins also point out that minimum temperatures over northwest India, including Punjab, will remain below normal during this period, indicating a continued cool spell and not just a one-day dip in temperature.
