Heavy rainfall has triggered a flood scare in Jalandhar Cantonment constituency after Chitti Bein overflowed near the Jalandhar–Phagwara–Delhi highway. Several villages including Kukkar Pind, Chachowal, Jagral, and Bajhua are facing waterlogging in farmlands, threatening hundreds of acres of standing crops.
All India Congress Committee Secretary and MLA Padma Shri Pargat Singh visited the flood-hit areas on Sunday. He reassured residents of his support, urging them not to panic but to stay alert. Singh also called senior district administration officials on the spot, asking them to take swift preventive steps and monitor the situation closely.
He warned that though the situation is currently under control, additional water from the Hoshiarpur side could raise levels overnight, worsening the threat. With Majha and Malwa regions already battling floods, Singh cautioned that Doaba flooding could make the crisis even more severe than the 1988 floods.
At the Jagral-Bajhua bridge, Singh noticed water flowing above the structure and visible cracks developing. He said the bridge, used by heavy vehicles, is at risk of collapse, which would cut off vital connectivity for surrounding villages
