A theft took place last night in a house located in Ward No. 34 of the Shekhupur area of Kapurthala, where gold and silver jewelry, cash, and other items worth about ₹75 lakh were stolen. After receiving information about the incident, the City Police Station reached the spot and began an investigation.
Family member Sumit said that around 9 p.m., he had gone with his family to attend a wedding ceremony in Hoshiarpur. When they returned home at around 2:30 a.m., they found that the locks on the main door had been broken.
Inside the house, the rooms were ransacked and the DVR of the CCTV cameras was also missing.
According to Sumit, the locks of the cupboards were also broken and everything inside was scattered. The thieves stole about 45 tolas of gold, half a kilogram of silver, approximately ₹4 lakh in cash, 1,000 US dollars, and a new tablet from the house.
The stolen jewelry included ornaments belonging to his mother Rita Nair, who lives in the United States, his sister who lives in Canada, and his wife.
As soon as the police were informed about the incident, the team from the City Police Station arrived at the scene and began checking CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding area. In the morning, the dog squad team from Kapurthala also inspected the crime scene.
Police said that the investigation is ongoing and the accused will be arrested soon. The head of the family, Sumit, has requested the police administration to catch the thieves as soon as possible.
