Attackers allegedly fire several rounds late at night
A late-night firing incident was reported from Nawanpind Sardaran village near Gurdaspur, where unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at the house and car of Kulwinder Singh, brother of former village sarpanch Rajinder Singh.
According to the information available, the attackers arrived in vehicles and allegedly fired around six to seven rounds at the premises. No injuries have been reported so far.
Villagers pelt stones as attackers flee
Following the firing, some villagers allegedly started pelting stones at the attackers, forcing them to flee the spot.
CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced. The footage reportedly shows the assailants leaving the area in two vehicles after the firing. Some villagers can also be seen coming out of their homes and following the vehicles, but none of the attackers could be apprehended at the spot.
Three bullet shells recovered
Police reached the location and recovered three bullet shells from the spot. The police have started investigating the incident and are examining the CCTV footage to identify those involved.
It is being claimed that some of the suspects have been identified and are from a nearby village. However, Kulwinder Singh and former sarpanch Rajinder Singh reportedly said they have no known enmity with the suspected individuals.
Family allegedly received threat calls
The family has also claimed that Kulwinder Singh had been receiving threatening calls from international numbers for the past few days. According to the claim, threats had allegedly been made against him and his family.
The connection between these alleged threats and the firing incident is yet to be established by the police.
SSP says personal rivalry angle being investigated
Speaking about the incident, SSP Aditya said that the matter has come to the police's attention and that an investigation has been initiated.
The SSP said the incident currently appears to be related to a personal rivalry, and further investigation is underway.
