As per reports, a court of Samrala town of Ludhiana district of Punjab has issued summons to Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa. He has been asked to appear in court on September 2.
The Punjabi singer has been summoned after a complaint was filed against him for alleged objectionable lyrics in his song 'Sirra'.
Rajdeep Singh Mann of Samrala has filed a complaint. The petitioner has objected to a line of the song 'Oh jatta de aa kaake balliye… jammeya nu gurti ch mili afeem hai…' (We are the sons of Jats. We got opium as our first food when we were born).
He argued that the use of the word "Gurhti" is derogatory, as the word has special significance in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
A legal notice was earlier sent to the singer, demanding removal of the song or an explanation about it. When the matter could not be resolved, the matter was taken to court, resulting in summons being issued to Guru Randhawa.
The singer is now scheduled to appear in the Samrala court on September 2, where the case will be heard.
