

Punjab is currently experiencing dry weather conditions with heatwave reported at isolated places across the state and according to the latest weather update the highest temperature recorded was 41.3°C in Bathinda while the lowest minimum temperature stood at 16.5°C in Gurdaspur.
The weather department has warned that temperatures are likely to rise further by 3–4°C over the next five days and heatwave conditions are expected to continue at isolated places across Punjab from April 20 to April 24.
On April 20 heatwave conditions are being reported in parts of Punjab including Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala and the weather is expected to remain dry.
On April 21 similar conditions are likely in Ludhiana, Nawashahar, Rupnagar, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, SAS Nagar and Patiala with dry weather continuing.
On April 22 heatwave conditions are expected in most parts of Punjab except Pathankot, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur while dry weather is likely.
The same pattern is expected to continue on April 23 and April 24 with heatwave conditions in most districts except the above-mentioned areas while the weather will remain dry throughout.
Drink plenty of water, even if you are not feeling thirsty
Always carry water when stepping out
Take natural drinks like nimbu pani, lassi, chaach, coconut water, jaljeera or aam panna
Eat water-rich fruits and vegetables like watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber and oranges
Stay indoors as much as possible, especially during afternoon hours
Wear light-coloured, loose cotton clothes
Cover your head with a cap, hat or umbrella
Wear proper footwear while going out
Keep your house cool by closing curtains during the day and opening windows at night
Take extra care of children, elderly people, pregnant women and those who are sick
Do not go out in the sun unless it is necessary
Avoid heavy physical activity during peak heat hours
Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and sugary drinks as they can dehydrate you
Do not eat stale or leftover food
Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles
