A government holiday has been declared across Punjab on May 1, 2026 on account of Labour Day (May Day) and as a result all government offices, educational institutions and public sector organisations will remain closed on Friday.
According to the official holiday calendar released earlier by the Punjab Government’s Personnel Department (Personnel Policy-3 Branch) May 1 has been listed as a gazetted holiday and the notification confirming the holiday had already been issued in advance.
Due to the holiday government and private schools and colleges across the state will also remain shut and the official schedule for May 2026 also includes Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) on May 27 (Wednesday) as a gazetted holiday and on both these days all government institutions will remain closed. Authorities have clarified that while regular services will be suspended due to the holiday essential services will continue to function as per standard arrangements.
