The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran is taking a toll on Jalandhar’s renowned hand tool export industry. Industrialists of Jalandhar, who were on their way to Germany for the annual hand tool exhibition, are stranded in Doha due to flight disruptions.
Ashwani Sharma, Ex-President of the Federation of Indian Export Promotion Council, said, "For the past 50 years, I have been attending the exhibition in Germany. This year, too, my relatives and other industrialists of Jalandhar were on their way to Germany for the exhibition. However, they got stranded mid-journey. I have been in touch with the Central Government to ensure their safe return."
Jalandhar’s renowned hand tool export industry generates an annual revenue of nearly Rs. 3000 Crore. In case of an extension of the conflict, the export industry might face a huge loss of crores of rupees.
