Jalandhar businessman sends Rs 50 lakh legal notice to Shrimann Hospital, and Insurance firm

A Jalandhar-based Businessman named Pawan Kumar has sent a Rs 50 lakh legal notice to city's prominent Shrimann Hospital (now taken over by Fortis Hospital) and an Insurance firm named Star Health.

Shrimann Hospital's cardiac department has been accused of issuing a wrong medical report, falsely stating that businessman Pawan Kumar was suffering from a serious heart condition. The businessman, however, did not have the disease mentioned in the report.

Law office of Rajiv Kohli and Tushar Kohli who is representing Pawan Kumar confirmed to True Scoop that Shrimann Hospital and Star Health Insurance Company have been given 15 days time to comply with the notice, or else a case will be filed in consumer court.

Know the case in detail

Legal notice sent to Shrimann Hospital and Star Health says that Pawan Kumar was admitted in the hospital in June 2025 with the complaint of chest pain and was underwent Coronary angiography which revealed normal coronary Arteries.

However, in the discharge summary it was mentioned that Pawan Kumar is suffering from DVD meaning Double vessel disease which was not a fact.

The businessman then submitted his claim of Rs 18,950 which was rejected. The claim was rejected stated "it is observed from the discharge summary that the insured patient has double vessel diseases but as per the angiogram reports coronaries are normal which amounts to misrepresentation of facts ".

After the businessman's claim was rejected, he again approached the hospital and found out that it was 'a typographical mistake'. Hence, the businessman again submitted a clarification but the insurance claim was not passed.

The legal notice further states that due to negligence while giving the wrong discharge summary created doubt in the mind of the insurance company.

The legal notice further states that despite of the clarification given to the insurance company, it did not bothered to pass the claim.

Due to these episodes, the legal notice allege that the Pawan Kumar's acquaintances and business associates have started doubting his integrity, thereby causing him immense humiliation and damage as they think that he had field a false claim.

As a result, the legal notice has asked the hospital and insurance company to pay damages of Rs. 50 lakh over "deficiency of service, unfair trade practice and loss of reputation, mental agony, and harassment suffered by Pawan Kumar."

The legal notice addresses Shrimann Hospital, and Dr. VP Sharma who is Partner and MD.
