

In a major development, District Consumer Forum has slapped a penalty of Rs 7.5 lakh on a private hospital in Jalandhar. As per reports, the victim's family had filed a petition in the Consumer Forum against the hospital for negligence in treatment.
The hospital has been ordered to pay compensation of Rs 7.5 lakh to the complainant for the negligence. This decision was delivered by a division bench of District Consumer Forum President Himanshu Mishra and Member Aarti Sood.
As per reports, Nitika Kaushal resident of Ladaudi Nurpur, began experiencing abdominal pain in July 2022 and began seeking treatment at a private hospital. During treatment, doctors diagnosed kidney stones and performed a new procedure.
The complainant remained hospitalized for approximately one and a half months, but her creatinine levels increased. The patient's condition gradually worsened. She underwent blood purification, and since then, she has been undergoing repeated blood purification.
There are accusation against the hospital that the hospital's doctors continued to administer banned drugs to the patient during pain, causing his creatinine levels to rise. The Consumer Forum considered this negligence in treatment and ordered the hospital to pay compensation. During the hearing, a specialist doctor was also consulted to resolve the complaint.
Apart from 7.5 lakh compensation, the hospital will also have to pay a court fee of Rs 20,000 rupees to the complainant, Nitika Kaushal.
