The Food Safety Department conducted a raid in Jalandhar after intercepting a vehicle carrying a large quantity of suspected adulterated and unhealthy paneer near Rama Mandi.
According to Food Safety Department officials, the vehicle was stopped during routine checking. During inspection, the officials suspected that the paneer being transported was not fit for consumption. The consignment was reportedly meant to be supplied to dairies in Jalandhar, Adampur and Hoshiarpur, before being sold to consumers.
The department seized the paneer on the spot and took the vehicle and its driver into custody for further action.
Following the seizure, officials also raided the location where the paneer was allegedly being prepared. A substantial quantity of paneer was seized from the premises, while samples were collected for further examination.
Officials said samples from the vehicle were checked at the spot, following which the paneer was suspected to be adulterated. Additional samples were collected from the manufacturing premises and will be examined as part of the investigation.
Food Safety Department officials expressed concern over the suspected preparation of paneer through improper methods, warning that consumption of such products could pose health risks.
The department said the action was taken to prevent potentially unsafe food products from reaching the market and ultimately consumers.
Food Safety officials have urged people to remain cautious while purchasing paneer and other dairy products and to avoid buying products from unreliable sources.
