The Jalandhar Municipal Corporation General House meeting witnessed the approval of several key proposals focused on improving traffic management, sewage infrastructure and civic services across the city. The meeting was held at the Red Cross Bhawan under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Rishi.
Smart Traffic System Proposed for 50 Junctions
One of the key proposals on the agenda is the installation of a smart traffic management system at 50 major intersections across Jalandhar.
The proposed system is aimed at improving traffic management and making the movement of vehicles across busy city junctions more efficient.
New 20 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant Proposed
The agenda also includes a proposal for a new 20 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant in the Basti Peer Dad area. Alongside the treatment plant, a 45 MLD main pumping station has also been proposed.
The projects are aimed at strengthening the city's sewage infrastructure and improving the handling and treatment of wastewater.
22 Works Proposed for North Jalandhar
The Municipal Corporation has also included 22 development works focused on improving sewerage and drinking-water facilities in the North Assembly constituency.
The proposals are intended to address infrastructure-related issues and improve basic civic services for residents in the area.
More Joint Commissioners Proposed
Another proposal seeks to increase the number of Joint Commissioners in the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation from two to four.
The move is aimed at strengthening the corporation's administrative structure and improving the handling of civic responsibilities.
Digital Survey of Street Vendors
The agenda also includes a proposal for a digital survey of street vendors operating across the city. Under the proposal, vendors would be issued unique identification QR-code number plates.
The system could help the corporation maintain a more organised digital record of street vendors and improve civic management.
Solid Waste Project Put on Hold
Meanwhile, the proposed Solid Waste Project was dropped from the meeting for the time being following concerns raised by employee unions.
Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Rishi said proposals numbered 163 to 210, including proposal number 183, were passed during the General House meeting. He said the Solid Waste Project was kept on hold because of concerns among employees and their union.
According to Rishi, the corporation will hold discussions with the union and the project will be considered only after reaching consensus with the employees.
Focus Shifts to Civic Infrastructure
With proposals covering traffic management, sewage treatment, water and sewerage infrastructure, street-vendor management and administrative restructuring, the latest Municipal Corporation meeting placed several major civic issues on the agenda.
The implementation of the approved proposals and the progress of the projects will now determine how significantly they translate into improvements in Jalandhar's day-to-day civic infrastructure.
