Today Jalandhar Municipal Corporation House meeting was held and a budget of ₹569.40 crore for the financial year 2026–27 was presented and passed within just two and a half minutes, reports indicate that as soon as the budget was tabled councilors from opposition parties, Congress and the BJP started raising slogans inside the House and demanded that the ‘Zero Hour’ should begin first so that public issues could be discussed.
Mayor Vaneet Dhir said that the corporation’s income has improved which is why this year’s budget has been increased and added that the main focus will be on development works and maintaining proper balance in spending.
Following this the Zero Hour was later started but the opposition continued their protest and alleged that they were not given a proper chance to speak and their voices were ignored. According to them issues related to the public should have been discussed before presenting the budget.
Amid the ongoing chaos and sloganeering the Municipal Corporation quickly passed the budget in just two and a half minutes and the opposition strongly objected to this calling it against democratic practices.
Out of the total ₹569.40 crore budget around ₹200 crore has been set aside for development works like roads, sewerage and water supply etc while ₹312.70 crore will be used for daily operations and administration and ₹55.56 crore has been kept for other expenses.
