CIA Team Cracks Down on Cross-Border Drug Network
The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have claimed to bust an international drug trafficking network with the arrest of three alleged smugglers and the recovery of 34.5 kg of charas.
The arrests were made by the CIA team under the leadership of CIA In-charge Inspector Surinder Kumar. Police said the investigation is now focused on tracing the wider network and identifying other people involved in the alleged drug supply chain
1.5 Kg Charas Recovered During Initial Arrest
According to police, the operation began on August 28, when officers intercepted Devanand alias Nanda, a resident of Dakoha in Rama Mandi, after finding him behaving suspiciously.
During his search, police allegedly recovered 1.5 kg of hashish from a black polythene bag in his possession. A case was subsequently registered at Rama Mandi police station under the NDPS Act. During interrogation, police said Devanand disclosed the names of other alleged members of the network.
Two More Suspects Arrested
Based on the information obtained during questioning, police identified Budh Bahadur, a resident of Hoshiarpur, and Suryarti alias Him Rati, originally from Nepal and currently residing in Hoshiarpur, as alleged associates. Both were arrested on August 29.
Police said 15 kg of hashish was recovered from Budh Bahadur, while another 18 kg was allegedly recovered from Suryarti alias Him Rati.
With these recoveries, the total quantity of charas seized in the operation reached 34.5 kg.
Police Investigating Backward and Forward Links
Police investigations have also revealed that Devanand alias Nanda allegedly has a previous criminal record.
According to the police, NDPS Act cases have previously been registered against him at Jalandhar Cantt police station and NCB Chandigarh. The other two arrested accused, however, have no previous criminal record, according to the police investigation so far.
Accused Remanded, Wider Network Under Scanner
All three accused have been taken on police remand. Investigators are now examining their backward and forward links to determine where the drugs were allegedly sourced from and where they were intended to be supplied.
Police are also attempting to identify other members of the alleged network as the investigation continues.
DCP Investigation Jalandhar Dev Singh said the focus remains on dismantling the wider trafficking network and establishing the complete chain involved in the alleged smuggling operation.
The latest seizure marks another major drug-related action by the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, with investigators now looking beyond the three arrests to determine the full extent of the alleged international network.
