
Police Commissioner Jalandhar Dhanpreet Kaur has issued a set of strict restrictions under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023, to maintain law and order in the city. These orders will remain in force till November 6, 2025.
Carrying any kind of weapon including firearms, sharp-edged objects, baseball bats, or other deadly weapons, inside vehicles has been prohibited within the limits of Commissionerate Police, Jalandhar. Taking out processions, carrying weapons in functions or events, gathering of five or more people, and raising provocative slogans have also been banned.
Additionally, a separate order prohibits carrying weapons in banquet halls, hotels, weddings, and other social events. Owners of marriage palaces and banquet halls have also been directed to install CCTV cameras on their premises and will be held responsible for compliance.
Another order makes it compulsory for landlords, Paying Guest (PG) owners, householders, and employers to submit details of tenants, servants, and employees to the nearest Punjab Police Saanjh Kendra (Police Partner Centre).
Police Commissioner Jalandhar Dhanpreet Kaur has issued orders for complete closure of all restaurants, clubs and other licensed eating places till 12 pm in exercise of the rights granted under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023 with the aim of maintaining law and order in the jurisdiction of the Commissionerate Police.
The orders state that no order of food, beverages etc. will be taken after 11:30 pm in any restaurant, club or other licensed eating places within the limits of the Police Commissionerate nor will any new customer be allowed to enter the restaurant, club or other licensed eating places after 11:30 pm. The premises adjacent to the liquor stores will have to be completely closed at 12 pm or according to the conditions of the license.
In the orders, all institutions have sound level 10 D. B. (A) Instructions have been given to follow. The orders also state that D. All sound sources, including DJ., live orchestra/singers, etc., should be switched off at 10 p.m. or their volume should be reduced. No sound generated inside any building or premises after 10 pm should be heard outside the perimeter. In the case of vehicles with music system, it should be ensured that the sound of the music system should not be heard outside the vehicle at any time of the day.
A strict directive has also been issued to hotel, motel, guest house, and inn owners. No individual will be accommodated without valid photo identification issued by a competent authority. A self-attested photocopy of the ID and the verified mobile number of the guest must be kept on record.
Hotel and inn owners are required to maintain a register in the prescribed format and submit details of all staying guests to the local police station in-charge daily at 10 am. The police will verify these records every Monday.
Special provisions have been added for foreign guests, making it mandatory for hotels and guest houses to immediately inform the Foreigners Registration Office whenever a foreign national stays at their premises. Installations of CCTV cameras at main entrances, reception areas, corridors, and elevators have also been made mandatory.
In case a person staying at a hotel or guest house is wanted in a police case from another state or district, the hotel management must immediately inform the concerned police station or police control room.
All firecracker dealers and manufacturers have been ordered to print the sound level (in decibels) on firecracker packets to regulate noise pollution.
The Police Commissioner has clarified that all these restrictions will remain in force till November 6, 2025, and strict action will be taken against violators.
