A fresh snatching incident in Jalandhar’s West constituency has raised concerns over the safety of residents, after two bike-borne men allegedly targeted a woman who had stepped out for a morning walk.
The incident took place in Lasuri Mohalla, falling under Police Division No. 5, where the suspects allegedly distracted the woman before snatching her gold earrings and fleeing from the spot.
The incident comes a day after two other snatching incidents were reportedly reported in the same area, adding to concerns among local residents over rising street crime.
Woman Targeted During Morning Walk
According to the victim, she had stepped out for a walk despite already being unwell. While she was walking, two men on a motorcycle allegedly approached her and asked her to move to the side.
The suspects reportedly passed by initially before returning and engaging her in conversation.
The woman said one of the men then pushed her to the ground, while the other allegedly snatched her earrings before both fled from the spot.
The victim suffered injuries to her knees after falling during the incident. She also said that both suspects had covered their faces, making identification difficult.
‘It Is Not Safe Even During The Day’
The incident has left local residents concerned about the deteriorating security situation in the area.
A local shopkeeper claimed that residents have been witnessing repeated incidents of theft and snatching. He alleged that a street vendor and an auto-rickshaw driver were also targeted by snatchers in the area a day earlier.
Expressing frustration over the situation, the resident said that the area no longer feels safe even during the daytime.
He also questioned the police response, claiming that despite the incident being reported in the morning, police personnel did not reach the spot for several hours.
According to him, the snatching took place around 8 am, but even three to four hours later, no police official had reportedly visited the location when he spoke about the matter.
Police Register Case, Launch Investigation
Meanwhile, ACP Aaatish Bhatia addressed the incident in a video statement and confirmed that police had received information regarding the alleged snatching in Lasuri Mohalla.
According to the ACP, the woman had gone out for a walk when two unidentified men allegedly started talking to her on the pretext of having a conversation before snatching her earrings.
A case has been registered at Police Division No. 5, and further legal proceedings have been initiated.
Police said the matter is being investigated seriously and efforts are underway to identify the suspects. The ACP stated that the accused would be arrested soon.
